D-DAY (BATTLE oF NORMANDY)
KEY COUNTRIES/PEOPLE:
- Began June 6th, 1944 (INTERESTING FACT: It was supposed to begin on June 5th but it was delayed a day, due to bad weather leading up to the planned day of invasion).
- Allied troops stormed the coastline of Normandy, France to fight Nazi Germany .
- Eisenhower organized it.

EVENTS/SIGNIFICANCE:
- 160,000 Allied troops stormed the beach
- More then 4,000 of the troops lost their lives
- Thousands more were wounded or missing
- Reports suggested that the Normandy region wasn't as well defended as the area around Calais. The Allies hoped that the Germans would think that the Allies wouldn't attack Normandy, due to the large sea they would have to cross.
- The Allies were trying to defeat Germany and end the war.
